Since I went in to hospital on September 3, my husband has:
Unpacked a whole house
Built us a new kitchen
Built himself a new studio
Cooked dinners for the week every Sunday
Settled Martha in to Montessori
Settled Max in to school
Been a Mama and Dada to them both
and helped them to thrive.
He has visited many buildings to get many forms filled out
Written and recorded pieces of music for a movie and an ad
Chased numerous mice
Gone to A&E himself with a wonky leg
Almost literally carried me through the last week
Been my shoulder and support and very solid thing
Also my giggle machine.

When he speaks to Oscar, you can see Oscar relax and exhale. The nurse says a male voice sounds like the vibrations Oscar heard in the womb. We both think of whales sending sonar waves across the ocean floor.
When he holds Oscar, Oscar has eyes for no one else in the world. He is drinking his father in, soaking him up, swimming in him.
They seem to know each other well from across the ages, they are merely greeting each other again.

Brian, you’re my best friend and adventure companion. Thank you.
Although I think we’ve had enough adventures for one year, don’t you?!
Here’s to a quiet 2018.
That said, maybe we’ll get a puppy …
