a suggestion

Someone, we can’t work out who, has explained to Max in great detail how they will be delivering the baby. He has it pretty bang on: the doctors will cut through the layers of Mama’s skin and muscle in her belly with a knife, take out the baby and then sew all the layers back up. He’s filled Martha in, and she asks regularly now when will the doctor please cut open your belly and take the baby out?

This morning at breakfast Martha thought she had hit on a win-win solution to get her Mama home and the baby out. There are plenty of knives in the kitchen, she noted. Couldn’t Mama just come home and everyone would pitch in and we could do it together here?

Max said he thought the doctors had better knives in the hospital. I tend to agree…
